Level 1 Award in Community Sports Leadership (previously CSLA
course)
What is the course about?
The aim of the
course is to teach leadership skills through sport, and this
qualification is often seen as the first step on the ladder to
gaining further sports specific qualifications in coaching. The
course will also be a great addition to any application form for
your Further & Higher Education course and sports / leisure
related jobs. The course is accredited by Sports Leaders UK.
Course content
The Community Sports Leader Award syllabus is divided into eight
units which are as follows:
1.
Organisational and delivery skills
2.
Safety in Sport
3.
Understanding the structure of sport / recreation in the UK
4.
Fitness for Sport
5.
Events and Competitions
6.
Improvisation and adaptation of activities
7.
Select, plan and lead on an appropriate sporting activity
8.
Demonstration of leadership skills in the community (10hours
voluntary experience)
The majority of the course is
practical in nature with an emphasis on learning through doing,
rather than written work.
Assessment
To qualify as a Community Sports
Leader, all units must be satisfactorily completed. Assessment
is carried out continually throughout the course by the course
tutors on the first 7 units. Towards the end of the course an
external moderator will visit to observe the running of team
challenge and verify the decisions made by the course tutors. If
successful the 10 hours of voluntary experience (unit 8) can
then be carried out following camp.
First Aid
Everyone will complete an appointed persons first aid course (4
hours) during the course. This then goes towards the assessment
of unit 2 and is a useful qualification to hold.
Team Challenge
Team challenge is
the time in the day when the whole sports plus camp comes
together and competes in teams at different sporting activities
e.g. ultimate frizbee, halo, quick cricket You as ‘Sports
Leaders’ will have the role of organising the equipment and
playing areas for all the games as well as assuming the role of
the umpire/scorer as your officiating skills develop throughout
the week.
