Who are we?
Christians in Sport has been reaching the world of sport for Christ for over thirty years. We work with sportspeople across the age range, covering over eighty different sports and ranging from young people playing in their school team through to professional athletes.
Our day to day work has two major aspects to it. Firstly we encourage and train thousands of players and coaches to represent Christ in their sports clubs and secondly we support and help these Christian sportspeople as they share the Good News of Jesus with their team mates.
Why Christians in Sport?
Millions of people playing sport never go near a church and have never met anyone who follows Jesus Christ. Meanwhile there are thousands of Christians playing and coaching sport. Imagine if there were Christians in every one of the 125,000 registered sports clubs throughout the UK committed to this mission?
Why Now?
2012 Olympic Games....2014 Commonwealth Games.....2015 Rugby World Cup. We are on the verge of embarking into the most exciting era of British sports ever! There's no doubt that today sport is more significant than ever in our culture, with millions of young people and adults playing and coaching every week. At the same time church attendance is falling, particularly amongst young people and men. Sport, therefore, is a mission field that cannot be ignored or underestimated. As the Olympic Games comes to the UK in 2012 with the desire to inspire a new generation to greater sporting ability and achievement, shouldn't Christians be at the centre of such a huge initiative in our culture?
