Christians in Sport is financed entirely by donations. The money given to Christians in Sport enables us to i) support the Christian sportsperson to more confidently live and speak out their faith, ii) explain the Christian message to sportspeople who are not Christians and iii) support the development of global sports mission.
86% of the money Christians in Sport receives is from individuals, 2% is from churches, 4% from trusts and 8% is claimed from Gift Aid. Every penny is important to us as we seek to make a difference in the world of sport for Christ!
A one off gift can be made either online by a credit or debit card, or by cheque.

Because charities are exempt from Inheritance Tax, legacies are one way in which you can reduce the amount your estate will be taxed. Under current UK law, the first £285,000 from one estate is free from tax. The remainder is taxed at a rate of 40%. Therefore, should your estate be worth over £285,000 a gift of £20,000 would be worth only £12,000 to a non-charitable cause.
Are there financial benefits from leaving a legacy?
Because charities are exempt from Inheritance Tax, legacies are one way in which you can reduce the amount your estate will be taxed. Under current UK law, the first £285,000 from one estate is free from tax. The remainder is taxed at a rate of 40%. How do I leave a legacy?
Legacies must be incorporated in your will. Do It Yourself wills are often unclear and possibly invalid. It is advisable to contact a solicitor to make a will, and the Law Society (020 7242 1222) www.thelawsociety.org.uk can make recommendations.
What if I already have a will?
A new will is needed for major changes; smaller changes can be dealt with by means of an official "codicil" document.
What options of legacy are there?
1. A residual bequest - leaves the remainder of your estate to a chosen charity after you have taken care of your family, those close to you and other beneficiaries.
2. A pecuniary bequest - allows you to leave a specific sum to a charity or organisation. The disadvantage is that inflation will devalue your gift, so you may need to update your will regularly
3. A specific bequest - This allows you to leave land, property or particular items that you own. We are able to benefit from this type of bequest either by selling them and benefiting from the proceeds (unless you state otherwise in your will), or by using them directly for ministry purposes.
4. A conditional bequest - in the event that the person(s) to whom you have left your estate dies before or with you, it is wise to add a clause which specifies an alternative recipient. Many people choose to make their conditional bequest to a charity.
What options of legacy are there?
Every legacy given to Christians in Sport would make a significant difference in reaching the world of sport for Christ. Without any restrictions to its use, Christians in Sport could use the bequest with maximum flexibility. Whether the gift would be used to employ more staff to get among Christians sportspeople to support them in their evangelism, or used to facilitate more events where the Gospel is shared, Christians in Sport would work hard to put the bequest towards the greatest need.
Any shares that you give to charity are completely free of Inheritance Tax. That means you would pay £400 less in income for a gift of £1000 in shares to Christians in Sport. Plus you are not liable to Capital Gains Tax, (or, for companies, Corporation Tax) on the increased value of the shares. That means a higher rate tax payer, giving a £1000 gift would save a further 40% - and you can add in any incurred costs in transferring the shares to us.
You can give any shares that are listed or dealt with on any recognised stock exchange.
In order to give shares, you first need to contact us (01869 255630) and ask whether we are able to accept the proposed gift. You will also need to send us written confirmation of your gift. We will then write to you to indicate our acceptance.
You should then sign a transfer form, which takes the shares out of your name and into our name. To get a transfer form, contact the company registrars - their details will be on your share certificate or dividend voucher - or contact your shares broker and instruct them to transfer your shares on your behalf. You should then consult with an independent financial advisor to ensure your gift is made in the most appropriate way.
Thank you!
If you are a UK taxpayer, paying income or capital gains tax, you can make your gifts worth almost 25% more at no extra cost to yourself. For every £10 donated we can claim an extra £2.50 from the Inland Revenue. All you have to do is click on the appropriate box when completing an online donation, or download a GAD form and submit this with your cheque donation.
