Assembly Plan For
key stage 2
Hopes & Dreams
Pick out a few children and ask them what they want to be when they
grow up, what are their hopes and dreams?
Use the GO2H video
(available from the office) to show how young people in the Third
World have hopes and dreams just like they do. Ask the children to
tell you why it's so hard for these young people to make their hopes
and dreams a reality.
GO2H is something practical they can do - what are their favourite
sports? Get the children thinking about what they could do to raise
money.
Divide the room into
two halves - one half of the room is the UK, the other half is
Africa.
Read out this list of
descriptions, and get the children to run to the side of the room
that they apply to.
-
If you get
ill here, a hospital could be many miles away, and there may
be no-one who can make you better.
-
There are
lots of people and medicines to help you keep strong and
healthy here.
Use the exercise to explain that the things we take for granted are
not available to everyone, and that children in poor countries
suffer the effects of that poverty in many different ways, including
not having good healthcare and basic facilities that we barely give
a thought to.
