Frequently asked questions
What is Game of 2 Halves?
GO2H started in 1998 and is a project of Christians in Sport in association with
Tearfund. By taking part in a sporting activity of your choice you
can make a difference to the lives of children and young people
living in poverty around the world.
Where does the money go?
Money raised in the UK through
sporting activities will be used for overseas projects chosen by
Christians in Sport and Tearfund. All the projects we support have
sport as a key aspect of their work.
In 2003/4 Game of 2 Halves has supported St. John's, in
Kenya in their work with young homeless people through
football and a Sports Camp for 310 young people in
Sierra Leone. For more information on the the Kenya and
Sierra Leone projects check out the
supported projects pages.
How much money has been raised?
Last year we have raised just
over £8000 which included over £4000 raised at Sports
plus last year with the bleep test!!
We gave £4000 to fund
the sports camp for young people in Sierra Leone. The
money was used to help finance accommodation, travel, equipment,
food etc.
We also gave £1000 to
Kenya to purchase equipment for the work they are doing in and
around the slums.
The other £3000 will
probably be spent on a new project later in the year.
Do I have to be good at sport
to take part? No, GO2H is about doing something to make
a difference to the lives of others. It’s not about skill or
technique - it’s about doing what you can and getting other people
involved too. There are lots of events you can put on to raise
some money and make a difference to young people's lives.
Check out getting involved for
more information.
What does the
Bible say about the work of GO2H?
Bible
basics for why we do what we do:
Proverbs 31:8-9
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights
of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the
rights of the poor & needy.
Isaiah 58:6-9
Is not the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of
injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter……
Who are the
organisations involved?
Tearfund is a Christian relief
and development agency which has 30 years experience of working with
partners in around 90 countries. It believes in meeting the needs of
the world’s poorest people and works to bring lasting change to
people in great need.
Christians in Sport
seek to equip sportsmen and women who love
Jesus to tell their sporting friends about the difference he has
made in their lives. They work with local churches in sports
outreach activities, sports camps, with students, tours and
professional sports people. |
