Steve Connor who used to work with Christians in Sport was an NFL
player with the Chicago Bears. Steve used to say that NFL stood for
Not for long. The average career in NFL, he said was less than 5
years.
If you have been in sport for a number of years just think how many
people you have worked with over than time. The world of sport is
truly not for long.
Daniel 1:31 is one of those statements in the Bible that it
is very easy to miss.
And Daniel remained there until the first year of King Cyrus.
The captivity in Babylon started in BC 605 and in about 539 the
exile ended when King Cyrus conquered Babylon. It's a lifetime
later. And Daniel is still there in Babylon in a position of power
and authority when King Cyrus conquers Babylonia.
Are you going to make an impact in your sport? Well, you
wont do it overnight. Are you there for the long haul? Are you
prepared to be in the world of sport to pray for people around you
and when you have a chance to tell them about Jesus? Daniel
altered history in his lifetime. Part of the secret was his
faithfulness over a long period of years.
Who else is going to be in the Babylon of the sports world if it's
not you? Who else is going to do it? Stay in there, stay in there!
Daniel was there for life, this is a lifelong work.
The world of sport is as much a mission field as China or Africa.
It is a place where people do not know Jesus and there's no hope
without Jesus. If Jesus has given you the skills to be in it, be
thankful and like Daniel commit yourself to the long haul!
