August 2009 Prayer Diary

Praying hands over a Bible

Saturday 1st - The Beautiful Feet (the Christians in Sport women's football network) Summer Tournament in Launton, Bicester this weekend. For Beth Cutting as she hosts the weekend and for the 20 women guests camping and playing football on Sunday. Pray that this weekend will provide a great opportunity for the Beautiful Feet Network to grow together as a team, and for the Gospel to be clearly explained during the 'thought for the day' slots which will be led by members of the Network.

The mission team who have just returned from Chennai, India. Pray for each member of the team (Angus, Aymeric, Charlotte, David M, David S, Iona, Kate, Laura, Lucy, Nina, Sas and Tom), to rest well and to remember all they have learnt during their time on mission. Pray for Paul and Grace Moses, our sports ministry partners out in Chennai, who hosted the team and continue their work for the Christian Sports Fellowship.

Sunday 2nd - Wisdom for Graham Daniels and Keith Proctor as they lead Christians in Sport.

Monday 3rd - The 94 young people who attended and the 53 leaders who served at Scotland Sports Plus in July. Pray that God will be at work in the hearts of the young people who do not know him, that they will remember the things they heard at Sports Plus and be keen to find out more about who Jesus is. For the servant heartedness of the leaders in giving a week of their holiday to help run camp. Pray for good rest for the leaders and for great follow up conversations with the young people they helped to look after.

Tuesday 4th - The 67 young people who attended and 44 leaders who served at Northern Ireland Sports Plus in July. Pray that the young people who are not Christians will continue to consider the truth of the Gospel and for the young people who are Christians to continue living for Jesus. For the leaders, that they will have good rest and be encouraged by the work they saw God doing during the week.

Wednesday 5th - The Christians in Sport Team running the Budapest Marathon on Sunday 04 October. For more people to sign up to run the marathon in order to raise money for the Game of 2 Halves (to support projects in India and Uganda) and Christians in Sport. Pray for a good number of people to sign up to support the team, so that the runners can be encouraged to finish the marathon race!

Thursday 6th - The gift of sport and the ability that God has given people to be able to play. Pray that Christian sportspeople will understand that their Christian faith and love of sport can be reconciled!

Friday 7th - Christian, professional footballers playing in the Championship and Leagues 1 and 2 as the new 2009 / 2010 season begins tomorrow. For those who have moved clubs over the summer to settle in quickly into their new teams, new homes and new churches.

Saturday 8th - Dave Waters (from Ambassadors in Sport) and Siyoli Lusaseni as they get married today. For Christ to be raised up during the wedding service, and for today to be a wonderful celebration as they begin their married lives together. Also, for Dave and Siyoli to be great witnesses for Jesus as they begin their travels on the pro women's squash tour shortly after the wedding.

Sunday 9th - Graham Daniels speaking at Charlotte Chapel in Edinburgh today. For Graham to boldly and faithfully proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ!

The beginning of Brecon 2 Sports Plus today! For all those who will teach during camp to be faithful to God's word, and for the Holy Spirit to change lives during the week. Pray that every leader will be servant hearted and strive for personal godliness.

Monday 10th - Brecon Sports Plus: today pray for the young people to actively engage in the Bible Studies and for the Team Leaders to be well prepared and faithful in teaching God's word. For the young people who do not yet know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour to be convicted of the truth of the Gospel and respond. For the young people who are Christians to be strengthened in their love of Jesus.

Please pray too for Simon Martin, a volunteer and leader for Christians in Sport, as he speaks on "The Problem of Sin" at the main evening meeting at Sports Plus tonight.

Tuesday 11th - Brecon Sports Plus: today, pray for each leader to prioritise their own personal Bible reading and prayer and for them to pursue godliness in their thoughts, words and actions at camp. Pray too for deep unity among the leaders, and for each young person to feel welcome at camp and secure in their relationships with leaders and other young people.

Wednesday 12th - Brecon Sports Plus: today for opportunities for Team Leaders to meet with their young people in a busy schedule, and for wisdom and discernment in what to say. For each Coach to establish a good rapport with the young people they are coaching.

The mission team who have just returned from Kampala, Uganda. Pray for each member of the team (Andrew G, Andrew R, Catherine, Daniel, Duncan, Hannah, James, Juliette, Mark, Peter, Rachael, Rachel and Vicky) to rest well and remember all they have learnt during their time on mission. Pray for Richard Charles Ssekyuru as he continues his sports ministry work out in Uganda.

Thursday 13th - Brecon Sports Plus: today pray that the young people at camp will make the connection between their faith and their sport, and that Christ will shine brightly through every aspect of Sports Plus. For the health and safety of everyone involved at Sports Plus, and for no major illnesses or injuries. Pray too for Jonny Reeves, a volunteer and leader for Christians in Sport, as he speaks on "The Promise of Life" at the main evening meeting at Sports Plus tonight.

Friday 14th - Brecon Sports Plus: today for the last day at camp! That all the practical elements of the morning and evening meetings (technology, presenters and music) will have combined effectively to create an atmosphere in which God was glorified and Christ was magnified.

Saturday 15th - The Corinthians (Christians in Sport Men's Rugby) Network as it connects Christian rugby players together. For Tim Friend and Mike Smith as they head up the Network and help to support the Christians to grow in their love for Jesus and in their passion for evangelism.

Sunday 16th - England Sports Plus: today pray for the first day of England Sports Plus! For the smooth running of the administration, registration, catering and for relationships with the school staff on site. For leaders to respond to each situation they are faced with at Sports Plus in a Godly way. For the Support Staff to serve well and to enjoy helping Sports Plus run smoothly.

Monday 17th - England Sports Plus: today for all who teach during Sports Plus to be faithful to God's word and for the Holy Spirit to change lives! For each leader at Sports Plus to be servant hearted and strive for personal Godliness. Tonight, please pray for Richard Leadbeater, a volunteer for Christians in Sport as he speaks on "The Problem of Sin" at the main evening meeting.

Saturday 22nd - God's financial provision to the work of Christians in Sport. Pray that the money will come through so that we can be effective and make a real difference for Jesus in the mission field of sport.

Sunday 23rd - Christian, professional footballers in Premiership teams as they are in the first two weeks of the new 2009 / 2010 season (which started on 15 August). For those who have moved clubs over the summer to settle in quickly into their new teams, new homes and new churches.

Monday 24th - The first week of the 2009 - 2010 Internship at Christians in Sport. For the six university graduates (Ed, Geoff, Jess, Marina, Lauren and Suzy) as they begin the ten month training programme with Christians in Sport. For the Interns to settle into their new houses quickly and to be really excited about the opportunities they will have to learn more about Jesus and share the Good News of the Gospel. For Norah and Sam (international students from Uganda and India respectively) as they join the first six months of the Internship; that all will go smoothly in the process of moving them into a new country and culture.

Tuesday 25th - All volunteers who helped to run the five Sports Plus camps this summer. For their servant heartedness and their love of Jesus! Pray that they will have learnt much about Jesus over the summer, and will be more excited about living for him. Pray that the volunteers will have felt valued members of the Christians in Sport Team.

Wednesday 26th - The new Christians in Sport year which will begin on 01 September. For Christians in Sport to remain Gospel focused and committed to helping people grow in their Christian faith and seeing lost people won for Jesus.

Thursday 27th - Ex-members of the Christians in Sport staff team. For Stuart Weir, now the Director of Verite Sport (an organisation that exists to promote a Christian presence in the world of sport and to take the teachings of the Bible and to apply them to sport).

Friday 28th - The Christians in Sport Hockey Network as they get together for a Summer Tournament this weekend. For Harriette Hobbs as she organises the team and for the 15 people (four of whom are guests) taking part in the weekend to build good friendships and learn more about Jesus.

Saturday 29th - Leaders of the Youth Pray, Play, Say Groups, University Groups, Adults Groups and National Sports Networks as they head into the new Christians in Sport year. For the time and energy they invest into the Groups and into their relationships with sportspeople. Pray that the Groups will learn much more about Jesus this year and have a real passion to play sport for God's glory, and share the Good News with their team mates.

Sunday 30th - Andrew Downey (leader of the Queens University Group) and Jonny Lowe (leader of the University of Ulster - Jordanstown Group) as they prepare to head up Christians in Sport Groups and support university sportspeople to live for Jesus during the next year. For their love and passion for Jesus to grow and for their enthusiasm to see lost university sportspeople saved for Jesus to be passed onto other Group members.

Monday 31st - The Pre Season Training (PST) event for University Group Leaders and Going2Uni students running today until 03 September. For this event to provide university students with a great start to the year, so they are excited and passionate for the opportunities they will have to play sport, and be a shining light for Jesus in the world of university sport.
