More than 100 students began the year with a bang as Clubhouse Xtra proved a big hit in England and Northern Ireland.
Themed ‘Dare to tell’, our student conferences featured gripping talks from 1 Thessalonians, helpful seminars and interviews plus plenty of top sporting action.
Student Team Leader Dave Hampton said: “We seek to run student conferences for Christian sportspeople to be encouraged and envisioned to share Christ. That’s exactly what we do – no more, no less.
“I was just so encouraged to know that the four days in England and two days in Belfast were exactly what any Christian sports student needs.
“It’s so great to see students coming along with the desire to understand how their faith and sport fit together – and then seeing them equipped to be able to share the gospel.”
It is our prayer that the impact of Clubhouse Xtra 2017 will be felt at universities across the UK.
Dave said: “In 1 Thessalonians, Paul said with the help of God, we dared to tell you the gospel in the face of strong opposition.
“It was so encouraging to see people thinking about what they were going to do to share the gospel back at university.
“They had the desire and the conviction to do it and they were thinking practically about how they could do it.
“During the conference, two people texted their friends to ask would you be willing to read the Bible with me - and in one case the reply was yes!”
There was also a great sense of unity at both conferences.
Dave said: “Sport is a huge thing that everyone has in common at Clubhouse Xtra. Christ is the main thing, but it also so encouraging to get competitive sports students in a room to discuss the highs and lows they experience.
“Being able to do the morning fitness, afternoon sport and games in the free time is another benefit.
“It is just a brilliant sporting environment and it makes the conference so unique. There’s no better place to go if you’re a student playing competitive sport!”
