How to engage with sport

 churches smp

More than 10 million people in the UK play sport in a club or team each week – it’s a massive mission field. Wouldn't it be amazing to see groups of sportspeople in churches across the UK who are committed to sharing life and the gospel in those clubs and teams?

The Sports Mission Pack is full of resources to help your church pray for the world of sport and continue to share life and the gospel with sportspeople outside of bigger events.

We have also produced a simple document with a four-step strategy your church can use to reach your local world of sport for Christ.

The steps are:

1. Find Christians in sport

A great start would be to email info@christiansinsport.org.uk to request a custom-made survey to help identify sports players in your church (see christiansinsport.org.uk/churchsurvey for an example) and put a notice in the church news sheet/email.

2. Cast vision

You could start with Matthew 28 v 18-20 – we’re called to go and make disciples of all nations and this includes the people group who play sport in local clubs and team. Build on this by watching the ‘Let’s Go’ and ‘Born to Play’ videos on youtube.com/christiansinsportUK

3. Pray regularly together

How about organising a monthly prayer meeting at your church or in your city? The Sports Mission Pack has some great tips to help you do this.

4. Plan and run training and outreach events

We would love to help sportspeople in your church pray, play, say in their clubs and teams. Email info@christiansinsport.org.uk for more information. To find out about outreach events you could run, head to the Sports Mission Pack.
