sports plus trainees

Sports Plus is a week of specialist sports coaching and team competitions for young people who are serious about sport and play regularly in a club or team. Sports Plus is the perfect way for young people to improve in their sport, while exploring more about the Christian faith and what it means to be a Christian sports player.

What is the Trainee programme?
The Trainee programme is a specific two-stage training programme that provides an opportunity to experience different aspects of Sports Plus leadership as well as what it looks like to be a Christian in sport throughout the year.

Who is the Trainee programme for?
The Trainee programme is for those who have just finished school or younger leaders who are serving at Sports Plus for the first time. All Trainees must be playing regularly in a club or team.

What does the Trainee programme involve?
Stage 1 is a separate programme run in conjunction with Sports Plus while Stage 2 incorporates an opportunity to gain experience of various leadership roles. The key components of each year are:

Stage 1:
- Biblical teaching and grounding in the Christian faith
- Christians in Sport Pray, Play, Say Training
- Serving by supporting various elements of Sports Plus
- Experience of Christian community and mission

Stage 2:
- Biblical training in Christian leadership
- Christians in Sport Pray, Play, Say Training
- Assigned to assist leaders in delivering Sports Plus
- Experience of Christian community and mission

Please note: these dates include compulsory Trainees’ training.

Christians in Sport take seriously the responsibility to the young people in their care. All Trainees will be required to undergo a Criminal Records Check and attend compulsory safeguarding training before joining the team. All Criminal Records Check forms must be submitted at least a month prior to the start of Sports Plus. Sports Plus costs £185 for leaders and Trainees but a reduced rate of £135 is also available for students, unemployed and those who wish to access the Bursary Fund.
