God's Unfailing Love- Isaiah 54 v 10

Angel Cabrera said he had achieved the impossible after pipping Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk to the US Open title at Oakmont Country Club last Sunday and clinching his maiden major. ‘I never thought this was possible,’ Cabrera said. ‘It's a great moment for me.’ A frustrated Tiger Woods reflected on another second-place this season. ‘Finishing second is never fun,’ said Woods. ‘You play so hard, it's just disappointing.  My last four majors: one, one, two, two. Not terrible; but could have been a little bit better.’

Only the best player in the world could say that! However, I’m sure you understand the frustration of gut wrenching failure. What happens when you lose in sport and life? When you feel no one can understand how badly it hurts? When you feeling sick inside? When you feel lower than a snake’s stomach! When you feel like curling up in a ball in a dark room where no one can reach you?

As we work our way through Isaiah 54 we get some insight into what God promises to His people in any and every time of disappointment or despair.

10 Though the mountains be shaken  and the hills be removed,  yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken  nor my covenant of peace be removed,"   says the LORD, who has compassion on you.

The covenant God loves His people in all circumstances, however terrible: ‘though the mountains be shaken and the hills removed’. Whatever comes our way, God’s ‘unfailing love for you will not be shaken’. His love never depends upon how well I’ve done. He loves you whether you are a winner or a loser. He loves you ‘unfailingly’. Indeed, God goes further. Whatever happens to you, his ‘covenant of peace will not be removed’. In the New Testament (Philippians 4:7) Paul talks about ‘the peace of God which passes all understanding’ as he writes having been thrown into a Roman prison.

Can I challenge you? Bible study is meant to be acted on. It’s called ‘faith’! To study the Bible and not act on it is like constantly training but never playing a real game. In this verse God promises you his ‘covenant of peace’ in all circumstances. He who has ‘compassion on you’ wants you to act on this, believe Him. Throw your trust on Him right now, however disappointed you are. Trust in Him for his peace. He will not let you down.
