Living in the light of eternity
“For here we have no enduring city, but we are looking for the city
that is to come” Hebrews 13:14
Anyone who looks for a career in football management can be sure of one
thing: the sack. Winning the World Cup did not stop Sir Alf Ramsey being
replaced 4 years later. Being a Premier League manager is not usually a
job with a long tenure.
I recently found myself talking to a professional footballer from Ivory
Coast. He is currently playing in France but has previously played in
Spain, Italy and Turkey. He and his family may well think they have no
enduring city!
What this verse reminds us is that life is short and eternity is
certain. Many of the things, which seem so important today, will be so
unimportant in eternity.
Whether you play, coach, administrate, or whatever you do in the world
of sport, this verse is reminding you to do it in the light of eternity.
Remind yourself that in 50-100 years you will be dead but that in 10
million years you will still be alive with Christ.
Keep things in perspective!
