Marriage
“Marriage should be honoured by all and the marriage bed kept pure”
Hebrews 13:4
Think how many sports stars have been involved in some kind of sex
scandal in the past year. As a sportsperson you are often young, fit,
desirable. You may experience temptations that do not bother others. But
with opportunity comes responsibility.
Depending on your sport, you may spend a lot of time on the road. The
pre-season or end of season tour may also put you in compromising
situations. You will have to draw the line at some point. You may be
comfortable going for a drink but the night-club may be a bridge too
far.
The Word of God is clear. Sex is for marriage and marriage is for life.
That the Bible has so much to say about sex and marriage simply shows us
that despite the increasing sophistication of modern life, people have
not changed.
Accepting God’s standards in marriage can make you look very strange in
a culture where the only “sin” is getting caught.
Holiness is living differently for Jesus’ sake. Being holy in marriage
is part of putting Christ first in your life and living by his
standards. Being a Christian isn’t about going to church for an hour on
Sunday. It is much more about how you live your life the rest of the
week.
