Ashamed of the gospel?

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes Romans 1:16

Our former colleague, Steve Connor was a good (American) football player. He was an outstanding college player and then his dream came true when he was offered a contract by the Chicago Bears. He was a Christian but a bit overwhelmed by the new environment. In his first week in training, Mike Singletary said to him in a crowded locker room, “Steve I hear you are a Christian”. Steve almost whispered, “Yes”. Steve went on to be a fearless evangelist but in that moment as a new boy in a man’s world, he could only manage a whisper.

I am sure that we would all say with Paul that we are not ashamed of the gospel. Equally we all recognize ourselves in Steve. There have been times when we have kept quiet about our faith and not taken the stand we should have.

When you speak up for honesty and integrity in a world where everyone fiddles their expenses and the only crime is to get caught, you look a complete fool. When you say that you believe that sex is only for marriage, you sound like you come from Mars. Living by God’s standard’s in the world of sport is a challenge every day. Not to, is to be ashamed of the gospel.

What are the areas in which you struggle not to be ashamed of the gospel?
