Pride Study - Header

OPENER: Is it OK for a Christian to be proud of their sporting achievements?

Discuss this in your group or think about it on your own.

INTERVIEW: Debbie Flood, former Olympic rower.

Debbie Flood is the first female captain of Leander Rowing Club. She won silver medals at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics in the quadruple sculls and also has three World Championship Gold medals. She currently attends Greyfriars Church in Reading.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Read Ephesians 2v8-9 before watching the next video.

8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - 9not by works, so that no one can boast.

TEACHING: Ephesians 2v8-9

DISCUSSION: Discuss these questions following what you've read and listened to.

1. Why is pride such a danger? What have you seen of its effects?

2. How does the gospel give you a humble confidence?

3. How does confidence in God (not in yourself) change the way you approach your sport?
