Community wide outreach - get ideas from one church that organised a week of sport to reach its community

At the invitation of the team Rector, John Samways, Andrew led a mission team to Keynsham in September 2002. This was the first time we have attempted a community-wide outreach to the sports community of a town. It was called Sportsweek, and a chronology of activities will assist understanding of the project.

Sunday afternoon - cricket match between Keynsham CC and a Christian team! Keynsham won a good game in the last over. This was followed by an opportunity to speak in the clubhouse in the evening.

Monday - teams in assemblies, RS and PE lessons in both secondary schools in the town. Also began a programme which covered every junior school with an assembly and sports activity. Schools work continued every day and was very well received. Meals with a message in people's homes in the evening.

Tuesday - Golf day. An excellent competition. Evening meal with another speaking opportunity.

Wednesday - coaching clinic with Jonathan Webb at Rugby club followed by presentation in the bar of the clubhouse.

Thursday -  schools work and meals with a message.

Friday -  Team member ref for rugby match between the two secondary schools. Sports dinner in the evening.

Saturday - Men's breakfast and closing celebration.

We saw answers to prayer and people moving forward in their lives. Numerous sportspeople heard the great news about Jesus.

Could your community do something like this?
