Sports ministry training camp
- find out
how the camp helped Esther in her Christian witness
Esther writes…
“I had been thinking about
sport in the deaf community and God had recently been challenging me to get
involved, so when a friend sent me the details of a Sports Ministry Training
Camp run by Christians in Sport in partnership with All Nations Christian
College during the summer, I was very interested.
I really enjoyed the Camp, both the biblical teaching and the sports
leadership sessions. I learnt a lot from the taught sessions and loved the
fact that every day there was practical sports leadership teaching. Part of
our practical teaching was to practise the skills we had learnt with the
children from a local primary school. Being deaf, this was a special
challenge for me, but I found that I could communicate on my own, without
interpreters, and this experience has given me a lot more confidence to be a
leader and coach among hearing as well as deaf people. When I was younger I
wanted to be a PE teacher but at the time decided to do Art and then Graphic
Design. Now, I think God has brought this opportunity of coaching children
and young people back into my life.
I have realised that the sporting talents God has given me can be used to
help others to enjoy sport and also provide an opportunity to share my
faith, especially with my deaf friends. I am looking forward to going back
to my deaf school and doing some voluntary coaching and also setting up
sports events for deaf people, as well as starting some football coaching
for girls at my church, who want to thrash the boys!”
