Lancaster Christian Union Mission Week

Week 4 was Lancaster University Christian Union week, and there were many Christian Union representatives around during the week in Alex Square and free lunch bars and events.  The week was aimed at making people know about who the Christian Union are, what they believe as Christians and answering many questions about faith and other topics.

As a Christian and sports fanatic I was pleased to see many events taking place built on the sports theme.  On the Wednesday afternoon the CU football team played Fylde B/C team in a friendly match at Rylelands Park.  The opening half was a close, tense affair, with chances few and far between, mainly played in midfield with both defences looking solid, particularly the CU, who have a knack of conceding 3,4 or even 5 goals every game!   During the half time talk, Rachel Atkins, a representative from Christians in Sport, gave a talk about a lasting relationship with God.  The second half began well for the CU with 2 goals and they went on to win 3-1, seeing the CU unbeaten run continue to 8 matches.

In the evening, the event call “Football Heaven” took place in the busy Varsity pub.  The video of England’s famous and glorious 5-1 victory over Germany was shown, with guest speaker, Greg, from Christians in Sport speaking on life as a sportsman and a Christian.

Other events are planned including “A Question of Sport” .
