The Scottish Student Conference 2005
the wee
in it to win it
In between the snow-capped mountains and Loch Tay, twenty-seven of us met for ‘the Wee In it to Win it’. The weekend had some bible talks from John 17 on the Glory of God. It was challenging and really made us think of God who is great and has to be made much of. There was also evangelism training on how to represent Christ in our sports clubs. And always, the sports hall was used whenever we could. All of us played 5-a-side footie, Frisbee, volleyball, table tennis, a life-size version of table football and dodge-ball! It was a great time to meet other students around Scotland facing the same situations and build relationships so we can continue to support one another to represent Christ through prayer. "A weekend of great laughs, a wee bit of Scottish banter, incredible sporting prowess, and best of all studying God's living word. We were a team of students representing most of the Scottish Universities both for Christ and various sports, led by a few seniors. Set nearby the beautiful Lawers and countless lochs, we marvelled at God's creation and spoke about giving Him the Glory through a study of John 17. It was awesome to meet in small groups and pray into each others' lives for the Lord's plan for us and our teammates. We discussed ways to tell others about Jesus and encouraged each other. 'To God be the Glory!' Some good nosh, a few rambles in the snowy hills (Will and Ned's most excellent adventures), impressive table wrestling, sign games, ultimate, volleyball, table tennis and random footie variations, topped off with serious rugby supporting. Cracking weekend...och aye tha noo." Anneli Mathew Edinburgh University Christians in Sport Group
"With bags of sports kit packed along with Bibles and smuggled snacks (kenco!), the delegates made their way to the Scottish conference in Ardeonaig lodge - most probably wondering where on earth Brycee had sent us as we made our way down what can only be described as a horse path! In the end the road trip was worth it as we were on the banks of Loch Tay in an absolutely stunning place. After we all got settled in we had our first real session Brycee explained the vision of Christians in Sport followed by teaching on the glory of God by Ian Lancaster.
A late night meant that the 8am starts where not exactly welcomed by
all but the promise of a fry up
After dinner there was more teaching and some role plays being acted
out, putting some of the members in awkward situations to see what
way is the right way to react - some dubious answers to this one!
Again a late night followed with some going on a midnight stroll up
one of the mountains to see some spectacular moonlit views.
Breakfast again was at 8am but by this stage we were pros at getting
up just in time. After boiled eggs and toast we had some more
teaching before the conference broke up and we made our way home -
hopefully better equipped to pray play and say! All in all, a top
weekend with first-rate teaching and some excellent banter."
