Church Sports Mission

King's Church - Perth

King’s Church, Perth, have recently hosted a number of sports mission events.  They began a course of six golf clinics in mid February with the help of two local professionals.  Church members were encouraged to invite their friends and they were delighted with the response.  The outreach culminated in a golf dinner in early April, at which Luther Blacklock shared his testimony which was very well received.  Relationships were developed and many good conversations were had.  A golf outing has been arranged as a follow up in June.

The church also entered a team in the local district recreational volleyball league which took place between October and March.  ‘King’s Arms’ consisted of three members of the church and three non church goers.  Everyone’s volleyball improved and much fun was had over the six months.  They Hope to have played in a God-honouring manner and were a good witness to both their team-mates and opponents.  Plans are to enter two teams in next year’s league.  Last weekend the ‘King’s Arms’ entered the church quiz together and in June will be participating in a local charity ‘It’s a Knockout’ event.  As relationships are deepened, they prayer is for more opportunities to share testimonies and something of the gospel.

Newmarket Community Church

End of season sports celebration.

About 60 people attend the event a 50/50 split between church members and their non-Christians mates.  The venue was superbly decorated giving a great ambience, a wonderful spread was enjoyed before Steve Miles (Christians in Sport) spoke.  This was the first time they have had any Christian input at one of their end of season celebrations.  As one church member wrote...

"At long last through reaching out to these lads and their wives and girlfriends you got the message of the Good News of Jesus over to them in a way that we were struggling to do so. ...........  It was wonderful to be able to hear the name of Jesus spoken out in that environment, and I pray that in the future we can all be more bold in our Church in the mission field of Sport. We get hung up sometimes thinking that mission is in far flung lands. That is very true, but mission is just down the road also."

Newmarket Community Church and King's Church are part of the Associate church scheme run by Christians in Sport.
