Women's football tour 2005

During June a women’s Ambassadors in Sport (AIS) team from America was in the North West, touring round, visiting prisons, doing football clinics and seeing a few of the Women’s Euro 2005 matches. Part of their tour consisted of playing matches against Bolton Wanderers, Manchester City, the UK Ambassadors team and the mighty Liverpool Feds (my team)!!

The 12th June saw the USA vs England clash ( i.e. AIS vs Feds)! It was a great game and a good atmosphere, and by half time the Feds had taken a 4-0 lead but AIS managed to contain them in the second half so that the final score remained at 4-0.

After the match it was into the clubhouse for food and chat, it was great to see the Ambassadors team mingling and chatting with the Feds. Part way through we did an interview with two of the team asking them what a Christian was, how it affected their lives and what difference it made to them as footballers. Each member of the Feds was given a gospel of Mark and a book from the Ambassadors team with their stories in, a bit about what it is to be a Christian and some info about the Euro 2005 championships. It was a great day and many people said they enjoyed it. It was also brilliant for me to be able to stand in front of them all and to encourage them to read the gospel and to ask me questions if they ever want to. I hope that the match and discussions have caused a few of my team to think about what’s important and to start their journey towards knowing Jesus.
