Hello friends.
Let’s get
straight into it this week
You might
remember that we’re looking at the structure of the Pray, Play,
Say framework that helps us all focus upon our involvement in
Sport.
We’re looking
at the book of Colossians. Paul writes to a group of Christians
who are being tempted to follow new and exciting things and not
make Jesus number one. We looked at how Paul told them that
Jesus was absolutely everything – all they need.
We’re now in chapter 4 of Colossians following the strap-line of
Christians in Sport to PRAY, PLAY,SAY.
We have already looked at Pray and Play, now
let's focus upon Saying something of the good news of
Jesus.
As soon as we
mention saying something of Jesus to friends we freeze. I was
talking to somebody the other day who simply said:
“The most
frightening thing in the entire world is telling my mates about
Jesus, I think I’d rather sit in a bath full of tarantulas”
Now I kind of
agree but I do hate spiders more than her I think.
We think it’s
a terrifying thing to do and much of this thinking comes from
our understanding of what it means to tell our friends. Much of
the time we think that telling our friends means that we have to
stand up with a bible and preach it -
Check out
Colossians 4v6 “Let your conversation be always full of grace,
seasoned with salt so that you may know how to answer everybody”
3 Big points
- Conversation
to be full of grace
- seasoned
with salt
- Ready to
answer everybody
Conversation full of Grace
It doesn’t
mention standing up and preaching in your dressing room. It
says – let your everyday chat be full of grace. What does this
mean? It means as you talk to friends make sure you’re upright,
warm and not self centred. In normal conversation let Christ
shine out of you. Don’t back chat, gossip, lie, bad mouth,
swear etc etc. People will see a
difference and will ask questions.
We’ll look at
the other areas in the next couple of weeks!!
Go well this
week – Let your everyday chat be outstanding in every way!!
