·         Sports Plus Conference – 7-10 of April. If you’re off for Easter Holidays during this time, be sure to make it to the conference. In October we had 44 young PPS-ers and had a really encouraging time. Have to be in yr 10 and above –click here to find out more!

·         Academy Start – Sunday was a smooth first day for the academy guys.  It was good to see parents drop of their children into our care for the next 6 months.  We’re looking forward to investing in these young people and watching them grow more like Jesus as they learn how to represent him in their sport.

BIBLE BIT

Romans Series – Part 1.

This 4 part series was taught at the first Sports Plus conference in October this year. This week we come to the last talk in the series

Talk 1 – The Truth Revealed… Rom 1v1-17
These verses explained that the truth of God has been revealed to men through the gospel message.

Talk 2 – The Truth Rejected… Rom 1v25 Key verse
This verse explained that every person has exchanged the truth of God for the lie of the world and now worships created things instead of the creator.

Talk 3 – The Truth Redefined…Key Verse – Ch 3v20-21 – Therefore no-one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. But now righteousness from God apart from the law has been known…

Talk 4 – The Truth Resplendent…Key Verse - Key Verse – Ch 3v25 God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished.

What is the most amazing scene in sport you have ever seen? The most dazzling piece of skill or the greatest moment of atmosphere you’ve witnessed. Listen, I’m no Manchester Utd fan but I wonder if you can remember the treble winning year of 1999. The moment Man Utd scored two goals in the last 3 minutes of stoppage time in the Champions League final to beat Bayern Munich 2-1 and lift the treble crown was a truly outstanding moment. People were speechless – it was a breathtaking, unbelievable scene. Man Utd were resplendent winners.

So we get to the moment in Paul’s account of the gospel truth which is breathtaking, almost unbelievable – it’s the truth resplendent. Type in the world resplendent into your computer and click the synonyms tab. You’ll find related words like ‘splendid, magnificent, glorious’. At this point we can claim that the truth is resplendent.

The truth had been revealed. It had then been rejected by every living person on the planet. It then needed to be redefined in the minds of the people reading the letter of Romans and now it is the truth resplendent.

Why is the truth resplendent? Because it tells us what the truth is all about: God presented Jesus Christ as a sacrifice (killed an innocent for the sake of the guilty) to bring us back to God. All we have to do is trust him through his death for our sins. He was able to be just (act in right way by dealing with sins as they deserve) as well as merciful (not giving us what we really deserve). God remains a good God who rightly punishes sin as well as receiving me back into his presence as though I’d done no sin. What a God, what a truth – that is why it is truth resplendent today!

Do you know that truth? May it effect your day today – what a great God we have!
