BIBLE BIT

Over the next 5 weeks (up until Sports Plus kicks in) we’re gonna recap the Pray Play Say motto of Christians in Sport to keep us focused on the calling we’ve been given.

I find that during these weeks of down-time when the season has finished and not much sport is being played, I get lazy!

I get lazy in my focus in my disciplines and in my actions. This year during these weeks I want to be different and I want to make a difference.

I love the slogan of the world famous Nike brand ‘Just do it’.  I watch the adverts and I really, just want to do it!!

So what does ‘just doing it’ look like whilst playing our sport.  How should we ‘just do it’ for Christ.

In Luke 10 we get a guy who wants to know how to ‘just do it’.  The teacher of the Law asks Jesus – How do I live, I should I live?

Jesus turns the tables and asks him – what do you think?

He replies – “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind and love your neighbour as yourself" Jesus answers – ‘you’re right’ that’s all you have to do.

Easy right?  Nah – way too hard because we have to work out exactly what loving the Lord our God with all our heart, soul and mind actually looks like.

Am I putting God first in everything?  Am I then putting others before myself?

They are the big two questions I should be asking myself every time I play my sport.  If I can answer honestly to them I’ll certainly ‘just be doing it’ but for a way better motive than Nike – I’ll be ‘just doing it’ for the King of Kings.

The Youth Department

Full name: Rachel Emily Arnheim
Nick name: Dori after finding nemo, as i am always forgetting things!
Sport: pole vault
Sport status:  i have competed for my club, county, region and England! I am a member of Blackheath and Bromley AC.
Story: 4 years ago, I joined an athletics group and it was really
scary because I didn't know anyone. One person was just really friendly, we became friends and then one week,he asked me to his youth group. I kept going and eventually became a Christian. It has changed my life as I now know I have Jesus to live for and that in sport I should be using all that God has given me.

PRAYER POINTS

  • Pray for God to help you keep your focus, and to put him first.

  • Keep praying for your friends who don't know Jesus.

  • Give thanks to God for how he changes Rcahel's life and pray for her as she lives for Jesus in her sport.
