PLAYER PROFILE

Introducing the Academy 08...

Full Name: Andrew (Stuart) Gledhill
Nicknames: Gledders, Mini-Cheddars, Gleds, Gledso, Lank on the flank, Cheggars, Andy Pandy
Home town: Chalfont St Peter
Top Sport: Football but have dabble in most sports!
Why the Academy?: I wanted to do some mission work and thought doing something relating to sport, and with my great interest in it, was a top idea! I also want to learn more and develop in my faith and relationship with God, and have some quality study and teaching time to prepare me for the future, which I believe doing the Academy will help with! Also to meet lots of new people, bring myself out of my comfort zone some more and be a witness through it all, as well as having a lot of banter of the highest order! Bring it on fellas (and girls)!!

BIBLE BIT

Series: Do everything with all your heart

Colossians 3v23 says "whatever you do work at it with all your heart as working for the lord, not for men."

Session 4: What is the Christian's motivation?

Well my good friends – what a glorious day!

Today we’ll take time out to focus on what today is all about but try and understand it whilst trying to answer the question ‘What is the Christian's motivation’

What happened on Good Friday? Good Friday is the day that Christians celebrate the death of Jesus. What a strange thing to celebrate. No-one celebrates death, but today the death of Jesus is celebrated – why?

We need to turn to the Bible – to God’s word!

1 Peter 3v18: “For Christ died for sins once and for all, the righteous for the unrighteous to bring you to God” Jesus died and the reason why he died was for the sins of human beings. The Bible teaches that everyone has turned their back on God and this is sin. Not only that, but because we have rebelled against God we deserve to be punished. Jesus died to take away our punishment – He died instead of me and you, the righteous for the unrighteous! And so he died to take the punishment for sin to bring you to God. That is the ultimate reason. You and I no longer face God’s wrath, instead we receive his love and the most loving thing he can do is to bring you back to God the father, the one who created you!

IS THAT NOT A THING WORTH CELEBRATING TODAY!!

So what is a Christian's motivation? Simple – it’s the cross! Without it we would perish. Without it we would die. But because of it we are saved. Because of it we really live!

Today is GOOD FRIDAY – what a good day!!

Go and Play for Him because of the Cross!
