BIBLE BIT

Over the next 5 weeks (up until Sports Plus kicks in) we’re gonna recap the Pray Play Say motto of Christians in Sport to keep us focused on the calling we’ve been given.

I find that during these weeks of down-time when the season has finished and not much sport is being played, I get lazy!

I get lazy in my focus in my disciplines and in my actions.  This year during these weeks I want to be different and I want to make a difference.

Keep your focus:

What is our focus?  Why do we ask you to Pray Play Say?

There is a little verse in Luke 19v10.  It is found right at the end of Jesus visit to Zacchaeus’s house (the tax collector).  Jesus has been accused of hanging around with ‘sinners’ and ‘bad eggs’ and he turns around to his accusers and replies:  “The son of man came to seek and save what was lost”  in other words he says; “Yep – you’re not wrong, it is my business to hang out with those who are lost and need to be saved”

Jesus sums up his focus in this one verse.

I wonder if that’s the same for you today – is that your focus?  Would you be able to say ‘that is what I am all about?’

If the answer is ‘no’ why?

This is what you’re called to do if you make Jesus king of your life – seek and save what was lost.

Let’s realign our focus of the next few weeks of downtime for many of you.  Let the reality of our lost friends heading to an eternal destination without God stir our hearts into action.  They are lost; they need to be found, and they need to be saved.

Our business is the same as the business of Jesus – to seek and save what is lost.

Come on, let’s get amongst it…again!

Name: David Bagnall
Nick name: Baggy, Baggers, Bagpuss!
Sport: Hockey mainly but badminton and squash as well
Sport status: I played for county and play for school 1st XI
Story: Playing school hockey has been hard this year as I am the youngest, so it's hard for me to tell my mates about our awesome God if everyone sees me as the young pup! I've got a friend also who is really opposed to Christianity, it would be awesome to see her at least come to CU at school.

PRAYER POINTS

  • Pray that God would help you to keep focussed.

  • Pray for 3 of your friends who don't know Jesus.

  • Pray for Dave Bagnall - that he would have opportunities to share his faith with his friends.
