BIBLE BIT
In this 8 week series we're searching for the truth behind
the real meaning of Christmas so that in the build up to
Christmas we may know with certainty and be thrilled!
Week 1- Luke 1 v3-4: Know with Certainty
Week 2 -Luke 1 v31-37: Nothing is impossible for God
Ever seen an angel?
My granny used to call my sister a little angel but I
can tell you I'm certain she wasn't!
This is where the great Christmas story begins - an
angel visits Mary and gives her some news.
The news is absolutely remarkable in 2 forms:
1 - The angel declares 'you are to give birth to a son
(v31). Why is this remarkable news? Mary is quite
straight with the angel in v34 - "How can this
be...since I am a virgin". Mary is no position at all to
have a child for she hasn't slept with anyone. You can
imagine her surprise... 'this is impossible!'
2 - The son will be God's own son (v32) and His kingdom
will never end (v33).
To be told that you're going to give birth to a son is one
thing, but to be told that he will be God's son is
another. Put yourself in Mary's shoes now - You're
having a child (gulp!!) and its going to be God's (gulp.
gulp!!)
Like any normal person, she needs convincing so the
angel tells her about her relative
Elizabeth and finishes with 'For nothing is impossible for God'.
These are bible facts - this is no fairy tale - these
events actually happened.
God smashes the impossible in our minds and says 'it's
easy for me', 'I can do anything!'
We hope that the amazing-ness and magnificence of God
hits you again this week as the Christmas story unfolds,
but how should that effect our sport?
The birth of Jesus was a miracle, yet the greatest
miracles, we learn from other parts of the bible, are
when Jesus reaches down and brings lost people back to
Him. Who do you think is the least likely person to
become a Christian in your sports club? Well guess what
- 'nothing is impossible with God'
Go out this week into your sport and represent Him well.
Perhaps, just maybe, one of your friends might ask about
Jesus and turn to Him.
