PLAYER PROFILE

Name: Dave Willis
Nickname: Willo (although in school used to be called 'Diddy' - on account of being really small)
Sport: Golf / Running / Football
Team: No team unfortunately just numerous friends and not yet believers who I play golf with and engage through running.
PPS-ing: Mainly through friendships made and established over a period of time - always opportunities to keep on praying for them as well as opportunities to play golf - run - football together and meeting up socially. It affords a good opportunity to keep in touch with people but also opportunities to share my life and faith with them.

BIBLE BIT

Romans Series – Part 1

This series was preached at the first Sports Plus Conference in October this year.

The Truth Revealed… Rom 1v1-17

What’s life all about?

Why am I here?

What next?

We live in a world with many questions, which for many people sadly go unanswered, but the truth is the answers have already been revealed…

In Romans chapter 1v1 Paul the author of the letter makes clear his purpose…

“Paul… set apart for the gospel of God.”

It was Paul’s job to make the truth of the gospel clear, that all may understand it and believe it for themselves.

There are 3 things that we need to grasp from Paul’s intro to the letter concerning this life changing truth:

  1. The truth is all about Jesus, God’s Son who is both fully God and fully human (v2-4). There is no gospel, there is no hope, there is no good news, there is no heaven, and there is no truth without Jesus! It is all about him!!!

Challenge – Remember that it’s all about Jesus

  1. The truth should truly encourage us as we meet together and speak of our faith in Jesus (v11-13). The Christian life can be tough, and there may be many hurdles to overcome on route. If we lose sight of Jesus we will stumble.

Challenge – Cling loosely to the things of this world but grasp firmly to truths of Jesus

  1. The truth alone can save for the gospel is the power of God for salvation (v16). Without the gospel there awaits only wrath and trouble (v18) yet with the gospel rescue is certain. Love the gospel and make it known to a world that needs to hear it.

Challenge – Tell people about Jesus

Friends this week will we be bold and unashamed of Jesus?

Go well
