Lancs Astounded by Athletes!

After some long email chat with a 15 year old lad from Blackheath and Bromley Harriers Athletics club I couldn’t believe my ears. A group of about young Christians in the club were approached by Aston my 15 year old email messenger. ‘Wouldn’t it be brilliant to put on a Youth Alpha in the Athletics club’ he announced. And so to cut to the quick Aston and his friends set about publicising the course sending a post card to every youth member of the club (there are 250) and posting details on the website – check out the link http://www.bandbhac.org.uk/general.html#ya

I visited the group on week 6 of the course and had a great time speaking with their friends (7 came that night) about big questions and decisions in life. What a vision, what a passion to see lost friends saved. It was a great night for me to watch Aston act upon his belief in Jesus in such a bold way!

Sports Plus Days coming up!!

Belfast: Rach Young organising the day comments: “Monday 30^th October is the big day. We hope to have between 60-100 young people, many who have been to Sports Plus before and many new faces, in fact it’s not too late even now – so check out the details on the website. Sport: Rugby mainly, but up for a bit of most things.
Status: Playing for my school's 3rd XV
Story: Quite a lot of guys in my team are just in it for the laugh, and and think that rugby's just a game to go out and start fights in, so I have to try my best to keep the team calm and walk away from any confrontational decisions. It’s hard but I still love it!

Let’s recap:

Know the Truth – Going through the basics Christians believe so that we are better equipped to tell our friends about Jesus

1 – God is God

3 – Man was originally created to be in perfect relationship with God
4 – Man has rejected God and His rule
5 – Man’s punishment is death and judgment.
6 – God has got a rescue plan for people

9 – Jesus now Reigns

Let’s crack into the Bible straight away this week with the question – Who do you think reigns the universe at this moment in time?

1 Corinthians 15v24-25 says this:

“Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet”

Going back to the first question – who reigns the universe now? I am often tempted after looking around me to declare ‘the devil is ruling this world’. Yet I would be wrong. The Bible tells me that at this moment in time the ruler of the universe is the Risen Jesus – is my Jesus and my saviour. He will reign over this earth until one final day when he destroys all powers dominions and authorities on this earth. You see, whilst the devil’s schemes look as though they are ruling this world, they fall underneath the magnificent, sovereign reign and rule of king Jesus. They will come to an end and everything will be called to order and in that wonderful process people will finally see all the glory of God and will praise him for who he truly is.

So what about you today? Feel battered by pressures or by people? Afraid to stand up for Jesus in case of ridicule? Doubting if this Jesus stuff has any truth in it at all?

Know today that Jesus has risen, he is King, he rules all things, nothing happens without him permitting it, one day all will be put right under his feet.

What a God we serve, What a God has called us to use our gifts and abilities for him – live them out this week!!

Next week is the last week on this series. We’ll be looking at the response that the individual has to make!

Prayer Points

Pray that your friends might see and come to know the risen, reigning Lord Jesus.

Pray that you would understand better that Jesus does reign supreme over all things even when that seems so impossible.

Praise God for Aston and His friends at Blackheath and Bromley Athletics club – that the Youth Alpha course would continue to go well and they would continue to represent Christ.
