Mark Frost, the former Glamorgan seam bowler and currently the Club’s Community and Development Manager, working jointly with Cricket Wales, has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List for services to cricket.
Since retiring from professional cricket Mark has worked, at various times, for the Sport Wales, the Cricket Board of Wales (as it was previously known) and, over the course of the past five years, Glamorgan County Cricket Club, in each case promoting and developing healthy recreation at grassroots level, besides promoting the wider social benefits of playing cricket.
Mark has been involved in Christians in Sport for over 35 years. In response to his award Mark himself encouraged Christians to get stuck into any role within sport:
“I was amazed and humbled to get this award as so many people deserve recognition that don’t get it. I’d like to use this award to encourage more people to volunteer in cricket and discover how fulfilling helping in sport can be. As a Christian I’ve always wanted to use any role I have of playing or coaching or within management to just be bringing people together as my own opportunity to be a Christian in the world of sport. Trying to do and be what Jesus would do, does have an impact across so many more people than you might think.”
On hearing the announcement of this prestigious award, General Director of Christians in Sport, Graham Daniels said:
“Mark Frost embodies everything we value in the work of Christians in Sport. Over the last 35 years he has served cricket as a player at the highest level and subsequently as a coach and administrator with a passion to enable every child in Wales to learn and enjoy the game. Throughout that period his consistent and public witness to Jesus Christ has the very foundation of his public service. We congratulate Mark on his thoroughly deserved royal recognition.”
