Praying for Sports Plus

Regardless of whether this is your first time or tenth time as a leader please stop to pray for Sports Plus.

Prayer illustrates our dependency on God for all things. We stop to recognise His sovereignty over everything: sport, teams, main meetings, salvation etc. Please use the prayer sheet as a guide to help you in your daily prayers.

We are also running online prayer gatherings on Monday 22nd June at 7am and 8pm where we will specifically be praying for Sports Plus. So please register below to join us for one of these.

Daily Programme

Below is a typical daily programme for Sports Plus.

Teams

Young people will be divided into teams of between 6-9 for small group discussions, Main Meetings, meals and accommodation. Teams are divided according to age and sex. Generally junior teams are young people currently in year 7-9 and senior teams those in year 10-12. There will be a Team Leader 1 and a Team Leader 2 assigned to each team for the duration of Sports Plus. If you are a Team Leader you will be linked up with your fellow Team Leader in advance of Sports Plus.

Sport

Young people will receive two hours coaching in their chosen sport during First Sport each morning. There will then be a wider variety of sports on offer for the afternoon Second Sport session and these will be communicated at the start of the week. Appropriately qualified/experienced Head Coaches will lead all sports sessions in line with government guidelines. If you are a Coach you will be linked up with the other Coaches in advance of Sports Plus to assist with planning and preparation.

Accommodation

Accommodation is with teams in school boarding houses and there are separate houses for boys and girls. Team Leaders will be in separate rooms from the young people but in the same corridor/house. Coaches, Support Staff, married Team Leaders and families will normally be in separate areas. All meals are provided in the school dining hall by the school catering staff.

Medical Information

  • There will be core first aid provision available all week, staffed by a Medical Team. Additional first aiders will be appointed as House First Aiders, in each boarding house, and Pitch Side First Aiders for each sport.

  • We ask that the Medical Team is not asked to treat injuries sustained prior to Sports Plus unless aggravated during the week.

  • Where the injury or illness falls outside the scope of what our Medical Team can fully deal with the person in question will be taken to the local hospital or GP surgery.

  • Please bring all medication (including paracetamol/ibuprofen) that would be needed during Sports Plus. Please ensure they are kept out of site in a safe place as bedrooms are not lockable.

  • For the health and wellbeing of everyone on site, if you experience vomiting and/or diarrhoea prior to Sports Plus you must not attend until you are symptom free for 48 hours. If you become unwell at Sports Plus with a possible contagious illness, you will be asked to go home until you are 48 hours symptom free. If this is not possible you will need to remain in isolation.

  • Due to some severe allergies if you are bringing any snacks please do not bring nuts or seeds.

  • All catering is provided by the school who operate their own food allergy policies. Christians in Sport provide the catering staff with all information given to us in relation to allergies and dietary requirements for the school to cater accordingly. If you would like to discuss this further please get in touch with the Sports Plus Team on 01869 255630 or sportsplus@christiansinsport.org.uk.

Safeguarding/Health & Safety

Christians in Sport complete thorough risk assessments for all areas of Sports Plus however by the nature of sporting activity injuries may occur. The sports programme will generally continue in wet weather under the discretion of the Head Coach/Sports Coordinator, and we cannot accept responsibility for injury where sufficient precautions have been taken.

Insurance

Christians in Sport is covered by Public Liability Insurance (£10m). This does not include personal injury cover, so you may also wish to take out individual sports insurance or holiday insurance.

Safeguarding

Sports Plus camps are run according to the Christians in Sport Safeguarding Policy. This policy is available here. In accordance with this policy a comprehensive safer recruitment process takes place for all leaders serving at Sports Plus. This process includes a criminal records check, references and completion of safeguarding sessions prior to Sports Plus. The criminal records check will be completed through the Disclosure and Barring Service, AccessNI or Disclosure Scotland depending on where the individual is serving. There will be a designated Safeguarding Officer on site at all times; overseen by two Christians in Sport Designated Safeguarding Leads.
