*Young people will be provided with three hot meals a day and there will be a tuckshop selling sweets, drinks etc. Your young person is welcome to bring any additional snacks however, due to some severe allergies, please do not bring any containing nuts or seeds.
Mobile Phones
Sports Plus is packed with sports action, meetings and meal times and there is limited free-time for mobile phone use. If young people do bring a mobile phone it can only be used during free time and any misuse will be dealt with accordingly, in line with the Respect Pledge (click here).
With the amount of sport being played daily and the physical demands of Sports Plus we want to ensure that young people get a good nights sleep:
Juniors: young people will hand their phones in at 9.30pm and get them back at 7.30am. Phones will be turned off and handed to the Team Leader who will put them in a box for safe keeping overnight.
Seniors: young people will be allowed to keep their phones overnight, however as outlined in the Respect Pledge these cannot be used after lights out.
Dress Code
We ask that young people wear sports kit which is suitable for their sport, and continue to wear appropriate, non-provocative casual clothing or sports kit to relax in.
For the safety of everyone no young person will be allowed to take part in any sporting activity wearing false/acrylic nails. Everyone playing netball must have short and smooth nails (as per the International Netball Federation rules).
Young people must remove all jewellery before each coaching session and Team Challenge.
Please note:
Expensive items (mobile phones, jewellery etc.) are brought at the discretion of the parent/guardian and are the young person’s responsibility during Sports Plus. Dormitories are unlocked and Christians in Sport accepts no responsibility for the loss or theft of any property, apart from when phones are in the possession of junior Team Leaders.
The school request that you do not bring any electrical items you know to be faulty/damaged and only use original chargers.
Daily Programme
Below is a typical daily programme for Sports Plus and you can also click here to watch a short video showing what happens each day.

Please note there may be some adjustments to timings depending on restrictions set out by the school (e.g. meal times).
Teams
Young people will be divided into teams for accommodation, meals and small group discussions. The teams consist of between 6-9 young people and will have two assigned leaders for the duration of Sports Plus.
Teams are divided according to age and sex and the young person's main sport will have no impact on which team they are in. Generally junior teams are young people who have just finished school years 7-9 and senior teams are those who have just finished years 10-12; however this will depend on the breakdown of ages at each camp so may differ slightly.
We take into consideration the team preferences from the initial booking form but cannot guarantee young people will be placed with friends. here possible we will try to group young people in the team of their choice, based on who they requested to be with on the initial booking form, with a maximum of three together in a team.
Accommodation
Young people are accommodated with their teams in school boarding houses, with different houses for boys and girls and Team Leaders in separate rooms close by. The size and occupancy of bedrooms is dictated to us by the school and rooms at Monkton School range from single rooms to larger dorms. Each team will be assigned the required number of beds and Team Leaders will allocate these on arrival.
All meals are provided in the school dining hall by the school catering staff.
Sport
There will be two coaching sessions each day at Sports Plus as outlined below.
First Sport (morning)
Each morning the young people will receive two hours coaching in their chosen sport - this is the sport they chose on the booking form. Young people must bring all relevant equipment with them for their chosen first sport as listed below. This is in addition to suitable sports clothing (e.g. shorts, t-shirt, skort, swimming costume etc).
Hockey: astros, stick, shin pads and mouth guard (outfield players) or goalkeeping kit (goalkeepers)
Football: football boots, shin pads
Basketball: indoor trainers
Tennis:
Second Sport (afternoon)
In the afternoons, there will be a wider variety of sports on offer for second sport and the young people can choose something different each day. These options will be communicated with the young people at the start of the week and they will select their preferences each evening for the following day.
Some second sport options require the young people to bring their own equipment. These include football, hockey and tennis with the equipment required as listed above. If young people would like to play tennis they should bring their own racket if they have one.
All other second sport options do not require the young people to bring any specific equipment other than indoor and outdoor trainers. Other options may include circuits, ultimate frisbee, badminton, volleyball, cricket and touch rugby. (Please note all equipment for cricket will be provided for second sport.)
Protection Equipment
Young people must wear the appropriate protection equipment for all sport sessions (e.g. mouth guard, shin pads). Please take note of the compulsory items above and ensure your young person comes with all they need for their chosen sport. These will also be required for second sport.
We will check at registration to ensure each young person has brought the appropriate protection for their first sport. If not, this must be provided by the parent/guardian prior to the first session or the young person will be required to change sport.
Other Information
Appropriately experienced Head Coaches will lead all sports activities in line with government guidelines.
It is encouraged that the young people take personal responsibility to inform the Head Coach of each session about any injury or issue which may limit full participation.
For the safety of everyone no young person will be allowed to take part in any sporting activity wearing false/acrylic nails. Everyone playing netball must have short and smooth nails (as per the International Netball Federation rules).
Young people must remove all jewellery before each coaching session and Team Challenge.
Medical Information
Medication
Please bring all medication that would be required during Sports Plus, ideally in the original packaging and clearly named. This includes any over the counter medication (e.g. paracetamol) the young people bring with them. All medication will be given to the Medical Team at registration, so please ensure this is packed somewhere that is easy to access on arrival.
Young people must be able to self-administer any medication brought with them, as the Medical Team will only store and supervise. No other medication will be supplied or offered, except for paracetamol, ibuprofen or antihistamine if permission has been granted on the booking form.
If young people carry an inhaler, they must always keep it with them and where possible provide a spare to be kept with the Medical Team.
The storage of anaphylaxis mediation will be as per the young person’s treatment plan. Most young people will keep their kit with them at all times but spares can also be given to the Medical Team.
Illness/Injuries
There will be first aid provision provided throughout the week, and where the injury or illness falls outside the scope of what our Medical Team can fully deal with, the person in question will be taken to the local hospital or GP surgery.
If a young person becomes unwell or has an injury that requires monitoring, at the discretion of the Medical Team, they must be collected and cared for at home. We cannot provide a facility to specifically look after unwell/injured young people during the week.
In the event of an emergency, the relevant emergency services will be called to provide necessary treatment.
It is essential that we have two emergency contacts who are available 24/7 to respond and collect the young person should an incident/illness arise. We will seek to contact you immediately in the event of an emergency.
For the health and wellbeing of everyone on site, if young people experience vomiting and/or diarrhoea prior to the week, they must be symptom free for 48 hours before attending, and if this occurs during the week, they must be collected and not return to Sports Plus until they are symptom free for 48hrs.
Young people must be fit to play their sport and take part in all aspects of Sports Plus. If your young person is carrying an injury which would prevent full participation, please contact us in advance. In some cases, we may not be able to accommodate the young person at Sports Plus, or it might be necessary to send them home if they cannot participate to a suitable level.
Please be aware that Sports Plus is a tiring week, and therefore beneficial for the young person to come well rested.
Allergies
All catering is provided by the school who operate their own food allergy policies. Christians in Sport provide the catering staff with all information given to us in relation to allergies and dietary requirements for the school to cater accordingly. If you would like to discuss this further, please get in touch with the Sports Plus Administrator.
Due to some severe allergies, if the young people are bringing snacks, please do not bring nuts or seeds.
Please note that we may request a photo of any young person with significant medical conditions. If this is required, we will be in touch.
