TRAINEE LEADERS & COACHES

Trainees are individuals who have typically attended Sports Plus as part of the Development Squad or participated in another Christians in Sport leadership role/programme. The programme is designed for those playing sport regularly in a club or team; to help develop their leadership potential at Sports Plus (as future Team Leaders or Coaches) and help them to live out being a Christian in their sport.

These dates include the compulsory training days for leaders ahead of the young people's arrival.

Trainee Leader

Trainee Leaders will shadow a Team Leader through involvement with a team of young people and join with the Development Squad and Trainee Coaches for teaching elements of the programme.


Course content:

- Biblical teaching and grounding in the basics of the Christian faith

- Involvement with a team of young people of the same sex

- Training in how to be a Christian in sport

- One-to-one discussions to enable you to think and apply the teaching and training

- Help on moving between life stages within Christians in Sport

- Serving within various elements of Sports Plus


There is a requirement for those in the Trainee Programme to be a Christian and they must agree with the Christians in Sport Statement of Faith.

Trainee Coach

Trainee Coaches will be linked to a Head Coach at first sport to learn and gain experience from the respective coaching teams and join with the Development Squad and Trainee Leaders for teaching elements of the programme.


Course content:

- Biblical teaching and grounding in the basics of the Christian faith

- Shadowing the coaching team during first sport to gain relevant experience

- Training in how to be a Christian in sport

- One-to-one discussions to enable you to think and apply the teaching and training

- Help on moving between life stages within Christians in Sport

- Serving within various elements of Sports Plus


There is a requirement for those in the Trainee Programme to be a Christian and they must agree with the Christians in Sport Statement of Faith.

Application Process

Once applications open on Monday 12th January (1pm) there will be a 4-week window (closing Monday 9th February), for forms to be completed.


During this time we will begin to process applications, including contacting referees, however we will not start offering places until after this window.

To enable us to process applications in a timely manner all references for applications received in this 4-week window must be received no later than Monday 16th February (9am).


Places will be offered based on suitability, including information provided by referees, and we will be in touch no later than w/c Monday 23rd February to confirm whether your application has been successful.

Key Information

Age

Trainee Leaders/Coaches must be 18 years old prior to the start of the camp to serve at Sports Plus. Those aged 17 years, including those who turn 18 during the week, must attend as a young person.


Safeguarding

Christians in Sport take seriously their responsibility for the young people in their care. All Trainee Leaders/Coaches will be required to undergo an enhanced level Criminal Record Check and attend a compulsory safeguarding session before joining the team. Cost

The Trainee Programme at Sports Plus costs £180 with a reduced rate of £100 also available. The reduced rate is subsidised by the Sports Plus Bursary Fund.

Coaching Bursary Programme

As we seek to develop future coaches for Sports Plus we have a bursary available to financially assist coaches in obtaining coaching qualifications in return for a commitment to coaching at Sports Plus.
